2021 Grace Community Food Share (GCFS) Intern Job Description

GCGCNY has been approved for a government-sponsored GCFS Intern. The intern is approved for 11 weeks,at 25 hrs per week (minimum wage). Days and hours are flexible. Please see below for some details.

Ineligible applicants:                 Visa students, those on work permits
Eligible applicants:                    Canadian citizens; permanent citizens; refugees; 15-30 years old
                                                     Applicants do not need to be a student

GCFS Intern Job Description

Meeting with supervisors (over zoom):         approx. once every 2 weeks (at beginning, more frequent)
(Prioritized, most important = 1)
1. set up volunteer, client, community outreach and other tracking tools 
a. clean up volunteer database (attendance) – drivers; food buyers; honourariums
i. Make a system that is easy to maintain & update
ii. coordinate sorting donated food
b. clean up client database
i. Make a system that is easy to maintain & update
ii. set up a data base to capture client’s activities such as communication with client
c. clean up food management database
i. Make a system that is easy to maintain & update
d. clean up community outreach referral & partners’ database
i. Make a system that is easy to maintain & update
ii. research info about other food banks, e.g. eligibility, catchment area
iii. look for grant opportunities to apply
2. Update/create training/volunteer manual
3. Assist Saturday Operations coordinators
4. Help coordinate conversion of office to storage
5. Help initiate promotion of the Food Bank within GCGCNY (incl. social media – Instagram; all three congregations)
6. Helping with professional development of volunteers (workshops on food handling; nutrition, best practices within
food banks)
